The game is reminiscent of so many card games that we played, both as a child and as an adult. It draws upon lifetime skills associated both with lifetime card game skills and Bingo.
The game is intuitive and requires little in the way of instructions or achieving success. It's a fast-moving game with frequent and multiple winners. Imagine being dealt a pair of fives and a five is called!
By using jumbo cards, each player receives both audio and visual cues as to the card called. No need to repeat the card over and over or to answer for those who may not have heard or remember what card was called out - just look up, and if you forget, look up again.
Hands last only a few minutes, as long as it takes to go through one deck of cards or until someone wins. Thus, short attention spans are not exceeded and a new game is begun before you know it, giving everyone another chance to win. End result-everyone is a winner! And shuffling the large cards is really not necessary since each hand changes by shuffling and dealing the smaller cards.
This game is perfect for those in the middle and later stages of dementia, who may not have the patience or desire to play games that may frustrate them, rather than provide pleasure. And if assistance is needed - just check your neighbor's hand, "Hey Sarah, you've got a King!"
