Alzheimer’s disease has no true set of symptoms, yet a broad range of
potential behaviors, including one called Pica. Pica is an eating
disorder that is seen in as much as 30% of persons dealing with mental
issues. As it applies to Alzheimer’s, persons dealing with agnosia or
other recognition issues may have difficulty understanding exactly what
common items really are. They may misinterpret them and put them in
their mouth or even try to eat them. With Bingo and other games that may
apply to the small, colorful chips, which can be a dangerous choking
hazard -- thus the benefits of sliding windows instead of chips to cover
numbers. Another benefit to sliding windows on Bingo cards is that
there is no need for all those little chips that must be poured off the
card at the end of the game, that get on the floor, that you can run out
of (if you’re having a good game). And if the table or card gets
bumped, the chips will fall off, but the sliding windows will not.
