Conversation Starter Games for Dementia
Our Conversation Memory Games ignites lively conversation and debate around the topics of hobbies and/or jobs. Inspired by cognitive stimulation therapy for Dementia, this game challenges players to share differences, commonalities, and opinions across well-recognized topics.
Are walking and fishing both forms of exercise? Are they both outdoor activities? We’ve also thrown in some more interesting hobbies simply to get tongues wagging. Taxidermy anyone?
Engaging discussions are inevitable when people begin chatting about what they enjoyed (or didn't) about their jobs. Is being a hairdresser harder than being an accountant? Did you once have a friend who was the local baker and used to sneak you baked goods?
Relish conversation games have been designed and researched alongside people in the early to mid-stages of Dementia. Every design detail is carefully considered; both the tiles and the large dice are easy to handle. The idea of using cognitive associations is to discover more about the thoughts and opinions of those around you, while stimulating the mind. Our chosen hobbies and jobs form an important part of our identity and in discussing the activities that bring joy to the lives of people with Dementia, we encourage connection with family and friends.
How to play:
Roll the dice and follow the instructions such as; Pick 3 tiles, which is the odd one out? Then select the tiles at random and discuss. If players are unable to make links they can also compare word length, lettering, or make their own associations.
Care Instructions:
All pieces are made from durable materials that are easy to clean. Simply wipe over with a damp cloth.
